That is such a great idea Melinda. A win-win because you get a break and she gets the experience! My middle school son took cooking his first semester and loves to help! Yay! :)

My kids were pretty good about doing it, but I do remember my son was awful about writing down when tests were so he was constantly caught off guard. Fortunately, he has one of those vault type brains so he did darn well for not studying.

Hi Paula! It's so nice to back in the blogosphere ... I've missed it! And all the great bloggers out there -- like you!

These are great tips. In the last few months, I've enlisted my teenage daughter to make dinner once a week. She gets to pick the recipe and then tells me what she needs at the store when I do my Monday shopping trip (if all goes well. :) I love having the break and she has really enjoyed the experience of cooking and the (mostly) good feedback she gets on her culinary skills.

Your idea about a "go to" recipe list is great. I always think I have to be super creative, but usually they just want to eat their favorites anyway!

So good to be back ... thanks for your sweet "welcome back."

I don't cook if I can avoid it and i'm pretty good at avoiding it but I have found the Pioneer Women's lastest cook book to be somewhat inspiring. I am lucky that my kid eats everything so I never worry about trying new things.
I think #4 is key. If I have to figure out what to eat, shop for what I need and then cook it all on the same day we are going out or ordering in.
One tip I have for little one's is a piece of chocolate before dinner. I have seen it work over and over again. It will diminish the whines, and actually enhance the appetite. If more healthy options are generally used the offer of chocolate on occasion also has a smile punch that is hard to beat.
